New Media Ecosystem and Media Education 3.0

Mil 9 September 2021

Digital transformations and rapid developments in information and communication technologies are having a profound impact on the entire media ecosystem, on media users, their access and use of media. 🧠 Profound changes in the media landscape create new opportunities and challenges for media producers and consumers, who must be agile and adaptive to successfully navigate the ever-changing landscape.

Media education is becoming increasingly important to ensure that media users are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and effectively engage with this ever-evolving media landscape. The most significant changes in the media landscape are related to the rise of algorithm-based digital media platforms such as mainstream social media and search engines. Therefore, the role of media education should be reconsidered in the context of the dynamic development of these digital media platforms. 🚀

Media Education 3.0 is a term coined to describe the media education needed for citizens to equip them with the skills and knowledge to navigate and critically engage with complex algorithm – and data-driven media ecosystems.
