Most of us spend a few hours a day on the Internet and use social media not only to communicate with friends but also with business partners, or to contribute to discussions under posts in various groups or fan pages. We have already said that we should avoid and fight against the spread of hate-speech. But have you ever wondered what the consequences a normal conversation (not hatred) can have for your reputation or good interpersonal and working relationships? Many social network users are often unaware that the digital environment requires the same etiquette principles as offline space. We are talking about the principles of good behavior in the online space, which we call netiquette.

Assignment 1: Bad Netiquette – does it apply to me too?

Assignment 1: Think about specific situations in the online environment and try to answer these questions and think about them:
Have you ever violated the rules of good netiquette in the online space? Based on what you have learnt today, do you realize that you could have behaved differently in the given situation? If so, how? Could your behavior have hurt anyone?
Have you ever witnessed a strict violation of netiquette rules? What was the situation?
Have you or your friends/family suffered at work as a result of bad netiquette? What was the situation and what were the consequences for the future?

Assignment 2: Consequences of bad netiquette

Assignment 2: Go to your favorite social media and find examples of the following manifestations of bad netiquette and then analyze them in more depth and think about the impacts they may have on an individual / group of people / society:
Inappropriate jokes that can offend certain people
Fake profile – not representing a real person
Sharing private information about others they probably didn’t agree with
A very strong conflict between the actors over a polarizing social issue
Spamming, ie sending repeated messages related to one issue
