Dear participant,

Welcome to this online course on tools for checking information and image verification.

We will begin the course with an overview of the concept of verification and the five pillars of verification followed by a short knowledge check quiz. Then we will invite you to watch the BBC video “Exposing killings in Cameroon” so you can see how they verified a shocking video that was online. This will be followed by a commented Power Point and a video tutorial to introduce you to the main verification tools.

After a second short knowledge check quiz, you will be invited to read about some tricks and creative solutions to narrow and improve your verification and watch an interview with the Fact-checking & Image Reverse Expert, Marek Miller. Then you can explore several examples of best practices around the world. The course will conclude with an individual assignment in which you will be challenged to prove that you can verify any information, image or video.
